Ad Astra is located in the heart of Lawrence, just two blocks away from downtown and a short walk away from The University of Kansas main campus. The three-story, 2,200 square foot building was originally the historic Wilcox Hunter house at 1309 Ohio St, just blocks from the KU campus. In 2003, UKSA purchased the building from the KU Endowment Association for $1. The entire house was relocated to it’s current home at 1033 Kentucky St and renovated (read the news story about the move here). Ad Astra opened as an UKSHA housing cooperative in 2005.
There are students and non-students alike at Ad Astra. We are a vibrant, diverse community that strives to live together in ways that are positive and supportive of our growth as individuals and as a community. Members of the house, share a bulk food plan and weekly dinners, chores, and good times. We share values of family, growth, environmental sustainability, conscious community, and human diversity. The social and financial benefits of Ad Astra require an extra time investment, with each member committing approximately 5 hours a week toward a weekly house meeting and to help clean and maintain the house. Mandatory weekly house meetings occur Sunday evenings at 7:00. |

This application, along with a possible interview and room availability, will be used by current members to make a determination on your placement in the house. There are no wrong answers. It's key that we get to know you, so please elaborate and be as informative (and creative!) as possible in your application. |
